Grammys: Sam Smith Wins Best New Artist Award

Taylor Swift, whose supportive Tweet helped instantly grow Sam Smith’s fanbase last year, just handed the Best New Artist Grammy to the English singer-songwriter.

Smith’s win assures that all three of the night’s most-nominated acts will leave with at least one trophy. Pharrell and Beyonce, who, like Smith, received six nominations this year, won during the Grammy Premiere broadcast.

In taking the Best New Artist trophy, Smith scores one of the night’s “Big Four” trophies. Also up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year, he has a chance to take all four.

Smith is also set to perform Sunday night.

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards broadcast commenced at 8PM ET.
