Eric Church’s “Talladega” Officially Hits #1 at Country Radio

The revolving door atop the Mediabase country airplay chart continues.

The latest entrant is Eric Church’s “Talladega,” which seizes the throne from Kenny Chesney’s “Til it’s Gone.”

Like Brad Paisley’s predecessor “Perfect Storm,” the Chesney track spent only one week at #1.

In its quest to reach #1, Church’s “Talladega” faced a legitimate threat in the form of Carrie Underwood’s “Something in the Water.”

That song, in fact, actually commanded six more spins during the January 18-24 tracking week (7,935 vs. 7,929). “Talladega,” however, scored more Mediabase points** and thus officially becomes the format’s #1 song.

Number four on last week’s chart, Underwood’s “Water” claims #2 this week.

Luke Bryan’s “I See You” holds at #3, while Florida Georgia Line’s “Sun Daze” (#4) and the aforementioned “Til it’s Gone” (#5) close out the top five.

**Mediabase’s country airplay chart relies on a points system that assigns a specific score to the airplay a song receives in each market. As a general rule, spins in larger markets are worth more points.
