New Ellie Goulding, Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson Songs Go Top 40 at Pop

Mediabase’s official pop radio airplay chart brings good news for three very high-profile new singles.

Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do,” Maroon 5’s “Sugar” and Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song,” those singles, all officially enter the top 40 this week.

Goulding’s song, which comes from the “50 Shades of Grey” soundtrack and landed at #47 last week, is the highest-charting addition to the top 40. It grabs the #31 spot on the strength of the 1,732 spins it received during the January 11-17 tracking week.

“Sugar” follows at #32 (+26). It received 1,587 pop spins during the aforementioned tracking week.

Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song” might have been more aggressively pushed at Hot AC (where it debuts at #20), but it was not ignored by the pop format. The song enters the mix at #38 on the strength of 937 first-week spins.

Headline Planet earlier reported that Natalie La Rose’s “Somebody (featuring Jeremih)” also entered the top 40 this week. It grabs the #40 spot thanks to 834 weekly spins.
