“The Hanging Tree” is Hot AC’s Most-Added; Selena Gomez, Mark Ronson Follow

2015 has arrived, and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” though still relevant, is no longer one of the hottest movies at the box office.

Its “The Hanging Tree,” however, continues to score at the hot adult contemporary radio format.

Credited to James Newton Howard and Jennifer Lawrence, “Tree” registers as the format’s most-added song this week.

According to Mediabase, the single won support from an additional 32 monitored stations this round. The latest wave of adds will help “The Hanging Tree,” which is already #21 at Hot AC, continue climbing the airplay chart.

Also hot this week is Selena Gomez’ “The Heart Wants What it Wants,” which claims second place on the strength of its 21 Hot AC adds. Already a top ten hit at pop and a top twenty five hit at Hot AC, Gomez’ “Heart” is certainly not done rising.

Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars)” registers as third-most-added with 20 pickups, while Ariana Grande & The Weeknd’s “Love Me Harder” earns fourth thanks to its 19 adds.

Meghan Trainor’s “Lips are Movin” follows with 15 weekly adds, thus claiming an advantage over Imagine Dragons’ “I Bet My Life.” That tune, the week’s sixth-most-added, won support from 13 stations.

Nick Jonas’ “Jealous” slides into the seventh-most-added position on the strength of 12 pickups. Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and Sheppard’s “Geronimo” tie for eighth-most-added with 11 each, while Mr Probz’ “Waves” and Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” share tenth place with nine adds of their own.

While it might have settled for tenth on the format’s overall add board, “Shut Up and Dance” looks especially impressive from a quality-over-quantity perspective. The alternative format crossover won support from stations in major markets like New York, San Francisco and Dallas.

Major Market Adds this Week:
95.5 PLJ (New York) – Ella Henderson’s “Ghost,” Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz’ “Prayer in C” and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars)”
Fresh 102.7 (New York) – Meghan Trainor’s “Lips are Movin,” Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance”
Alice @ 97.3 (San Francisco) – James Newton Howard’s “The Hanging Tree,” Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance”
103.7 KVIL (Dallas) – Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance”
102.9 NOW (Dallas) – Ariana Grande & The Weeknd’s “Love Me Harder,” Imagine Dragons’ “I Bet My Life,” Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance”
