After less than seven full weeks, the ascension is complete. Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” is now the most-played song at pop radio.
While its #1 position will not be officially cemented until Mediabase formally issues its weekly airplay chart this Sunday, “Blank Space” faces no legitimate threat of losing its top spot at pop radio. Still rising (albeit less rapidly than it was earlier this week), “Blank Space” will continue to separate itself from Maroon 5’s falling “Animals.”
Due on the evening of December 14, the second “1989” single’s rise to the throne comes seven weeks after it first began commanding airplay. That bests the eight weeks required by previous single “Shake it Off” in its run to first place.
Other top five pop singles include Ed Sheeran’s #3 “Don’t,” Calvin Harris’ #4 “Blame (featuring John Newman)” and Nick Jonas’ #5 “Jealous.”
“Blank Space,” meanwhile, also appears at #3 on the hot adult contemporary airplay chart, #24 on the rhythmic chart and #25 on the adult contemporary listing.
