“Mockingjay – Part 1” Leads Uneventful Friday Box Office

With no high-profile releases in the mix, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” had no trouble winning a third consecutive Friday box office race.

The latest “Hunger Games” sequel earned $6.6 million in receipts Friday. Enough to bring its 15-day, cumulative total to $242.7 million, it also assures “Mockingjay” will go over the $250 million mark this weekend.

Impressive, its performance nonetheless remains the weakest achieved by any “Hunger Games” film. After a comparable fifteen days, 2012’s “The Hunger Games” had earned $282.1 million. 2013’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” had grossed $317.4 million across an equivalent, fifteen-day period.

“Horrible Bosses 2” landed in second this Friday with $2.7 million, while “Penguins of Madagascar” was good for $2.4 million. “Interstellar” and “Big Hero 6” claimed the final two top five positions via $2.1 million and $1.8 million, respectively.
