Hot 100: Ella Henderson’s “Ghost,” Lorde’s “Yellow Flicker Beat” Hit New Highs

Two songs by artists named Ella reach new peaks on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

“Ghost,” the international crossover from UK “X Factor” standout Ella Henderson, rockets 42 places to a new high of #52 this week.

A slow but steady gainer at radio, “Ghost” benefited immensely from Henderson’s performance on last Tuesday’s “The Voice.” Following that showcase, the song zoomed into the top ten of the iTunes all-genre single sales chart.

“Yellow Flicker Beat,” the lead “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” soundtrack by Ella “Lorde” Yelich-O’Connor, also hits a new high this week. The track, which debuted at #74, slipped and then re-entered the chart at #82 last week, rises to #65 on the latest Hot 100.

While “Yellow Flicker Beat” has actually been losing traction at its core alternative radio format, it is currently enjoying a sales resurgence due to the release of the movie and the singer-songwriter’s performances on the American Music Awards and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” That sales boost might be enough to help “Yellow Flicker Beat” score an even better Hot 100 position next week.
