Ariana Grande Responds to Bette Midler Diss, Notes Bette’s Feminist Past

Surely aware of reports documenting her private reaction to Bette Midler’s comments, Ariana Grande has decided to issue a public response to the entertainer.

“Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgment,” commented Grande in an image on her official Twitter. “Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!!”

Unwilling to turn this into a back-and-forth diss battle, Grande closes, “Always a fan no matter what my love.”

She also captioned the Twitter statement–and a picture of Midler’s Delores Delago mermaid garb–with the comment “all love here.”

Earlier this week, Midler advised Grande (and other young female artists) that “you don’t have to make a whore out of yourself to get ahead.” She also commented, “It’s always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch.”
