Little Big Town’s “Day Drinking” Hits #1 at Country Radio

It might not a reason to start drinking, but it absolutely has one. Little Big Town’s “Day Drinking” is officially the #1 song on Mediabase’s country radio airplay chart.

“Day Drinking,” the lead single from the group’s “Pain Killer,” rises two places to #1 this week. The recipient of 7,861 spins during the November 16-22 tracking period, “Day Drinking” operates at a comfortable distance from Keith Urban’s runner-up “Somewhere in My Car.” That song received 7,575 spins during the aforementioned tracking period.

The Urban song, however, received more Mediabase panel audience impressions within the seven day tracking window (55.76 million vs. 55.60 million). If that advantage also exists among Nielsen BDS stations, “Somewhere in My Car,” not “Day Drinking,” will claim #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

Billboard will announce its next #1 Monday afternoon.

As far as Mediabase goes, Maddie & Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” rises to #3 on the strength of 7,213 spins. Frankie Ballard’s “Sunshine & Whiskey,” which hit #1 last week, slips to #4 courtesy its 6,243 weekly spins. Tim McGraw’s “Shotgun Rider” rises to #5 with 6,158 spins.
