ABC’s top two dramas exited 2014 with strong performances in the overnight metered market ratings.

Airing at 9PM, the winter finale of fourth season drama “Scandal” drew a strong 8.1 overnight household rating. There is no guarantee that 4% week-over-week uptick will manifest in the adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers, but there is every reason to believe “Scandal” viewers were intrigued by what was sure to be an explosive last episode of 2014.

Freshman lead-out “How to Get Away with Murder” then drew a 7.4 overnight household rating, which marked a week-over-week gain of 6%. Thursday’s “HTGAWM” made good on its promise to reveal the identity of Sam’s killer.

ABC opened Thursday with “Grey’s Anatomy” (6.4 overnight household rating).

The network’s “TGIT” lineup returns with originals on January 29, 2015.
