Ratings Update: The CW’s “Reign” Even, “Vampire Diaries” Down

Update 2: Its viewership average fell to 1.19 million viewers, but Thursday’s “Reign” managed to hold steady in the adults 18-49 demographic.  It drew a 0.4 rating in that demo.

Thursday’s “The Vampire Diaries,” meanwhile, slipped to a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating.  Its viewership average clocked in at 1.54 million.

Update: While it took a slight hit in total viewers, Thursday’s “Reign” matched last week’s broadcast in the adults 18-49 demo.

Per fast national data, it drew a 0.4 adults 18-49 rating with 1.21 million viewers this week.

Lead-in “The Vampire Diaries” fell slightly to a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating with 1.56 million viewers. Insofar as it has been known to receive favorable adjustments in the final report, fans should wait until this evening before considering a teary reaction to the performance.

Since they measure different things and come from different data sources, there is no exact means through which one could translate a series’ overnight household rating into an adults 18-49 rating.

That disparity has been particularly noticeable in the case of The CW. “Reign,” for instance, rose in the overnight metered markets last week but fell in the adults 18-49 demographic. “The Vampire Diaries” enjoyed a 15% boost in the overnight household column but nearly matched its previous week’s showings in both adults 18-49 and viewership.

There, therefore, is no reason to rush to judgment with only the overnight household numbers in hands. 9PM drama “Reign” and 8PM drama “The Vampire Diaries” were both down a tenth to 0.9 and 1.4 overnight household ratings, respectively, but there is no guarantee that same decline will manifest in the adults 18-49 marks.

One can, however, offer a broader takeaway: both “Reign” and “The Vampire Diaries” again performed at the overnight levels typical of the current season.
