Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High)” to Hit #1 at Pop Next Week

Billed by Republic Records as “the musical event of the year” when it released this summer, Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” ultimately found itself overshadowed by Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” and Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off.”

“Bang Bang” did, however, finally ascend to the #1 position on the Mediabase pop radio airplay chart (a position that will be declared official Sunday evening).

That stint will likely be short-lived.

Based on current tracking, Tove Lo’s breakthrough hit “Habits (Stay High),” which has remained very high in the wake of a boost from the iHeartRadio on the Verge program, will reach the #1 spot on next week’s Mediabase chart.

The recipient of 14,877 spins during the October 25-31 tracking period, “Habits” appears at #3 on Mediabase’s rolling pop airplay chart. That puts its total within 483 spins of the count for Taylor Swift’s #2 “Shake it Off” (a gap it will potentially bridge in time for Sunday’s official chart) and 744 of the count for the aforementioned “Bang Bang.”

Since “Habits” is currently adding more than 300 spins to its weekly count each day, it should have no trouble charging past the slowly declining “Bang Bang” during next week’s tracking period. And with no other song in the immediate race for #1, the Tove Lo song should have no trouble keeping that position through the unveiling of next week’s official airplay chart on Sunday, November 9.

A multi-format hit, “Habits (Stay High)” is due to imminently reach the top ten at hot adult contemporary. It is currently #19 at rhythmic radio and #39 at adult contemporary radio.
