Ratings: ABC’s “black-ish” Improves Against World Series Game 7

Insofar as it was facing hefty competition from game seven of the World Series, ABC’s new comedy “black-ish” likely would have received a pass if its ratings slipped Wednesday.

Such a pass is unnecessary.

Wednesday’s episode delivered a strong 2.7 adults 18-49 rating with 7.73 million viewers. While the viewership tally represents a slight decline from last week’s average of 7.95 million, the adults 18-49 rating bests last week’s 2.4 by 13%.

Beyond the fact that it aired against the World Series, the demo growth is rendered impressive by the fact that lead-in “Modern Family” was unchanged in adults 18-49 this week. Wednesday’s episode drew a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating with 9.75 million viewers.

ABC’s 8PM comedies “The Middle” (1.8, 6.90 million) and “The Goldbergs” (2.1, 6.79 million), meanwhile, both endured declines from last week’s adults 18-49 marks.

ABC closed its Wednesday with “Nashville” (1.5, 5.61 million).

“black-ish” has already received a full season order at ABC.
