“Fury” Wins Weekend Box Office, “Book of Life” Starts at #3

The reign of “Gone Girl” is over. Critically acclaimed Brad Pitt vehicle “Fury” slides into the #1 spot at the box office this weekend.

“Fury” claims #1 thanks to an estimated weekend gross of $23.5 million. After two weeks in the lead, the aforementioned “Gone Girl” slips to #2 with $17.8 million in receipts.

Despite the positional slide, “Gone Girl” can celebrate crossing the $100 million mark this week. Its cumulative gross now stands at $107.1 million.

New release “The Book of Life” earns third with $17.0 million, while “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” earns $12.0 million for fourth place.

Newcomer “The Best of Me” closes out the top five on the strength of $10.20 million.
