Ratings: “NCIS” Falls 10%, “NCIS: New Orleans” Down 8% (Updated)

Update: Up in the overnights, Tuesday’s edition of “NCIS” fell in the adults 18-49 demographic.  After premiering its season to a 2.9 last week, the flagship CBS drama slipped to a 2.6 this Tuesday.

Viewership, however, rose to 18.84 million.

CBS followed its “NCIS” broadcast with the second installment of “NCIS: New Orleans.”  Despite no longer benefiting from first-week curiosity and receiving weakened demo lead-in support from “NCIS,” episode two of the spin-off nonetheless held the overwhelming majority of its premiere audience.  Its 2.3 adults 18-49 rating trailed last week’s premiere number by only 8%.  Its viewership average of 16.57 million was down 4%.

“Person of Interest” closed CBS’ evening with a 1.8 rating and 10.72 million viewers.

Airing out of an improved “NCIS,” which did not face competition from ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” this week, the second episode of “NCIS: New Orleans” held up well.

The episode’s 10.3 overnight household rating trailed that of the premiere by just 2%. While there is no guarantee the show did not endure a steeper drop in adults 18-49, the week-to-week retention in households should fuel optimism about the show’s overall performance.

“NCIS,” which drew an 11.0 for last week’s season premiere, improved to an 11.7 this week. That additional lead-in certainly did not hurt matters for the obviously compatible “New Orleans” spin-off.

CBS closed its Tuesday with “Person of Interest” (up slightly to a 6.7 overnight household rating).
