Milky Chance, Ella Henderson Score at Hot AC Radio

Republic Records, the label that sent Lorde’s “Royals” surging up the mainstream radio charts, believes it has another crossover waiting to happen in Milky Chance’s “Stolen Dance.”

Based on early reception from Hot AC radio programmers, Republic might be onto something.

“Stolen Dance,” which is the reigning leader at AAA and the number two song at alternative, exploded with thirteen (monitored) Hot AC radio adds this week. It was the format’s most-added song.

Now in position to gain traction on the Hot AC airplay chart (where it is already #43), “Stolen Dance” will seek to build even broader mainstream support when it formally impacts pop radio next Tuesday.

“Stolen Dance” was not the only buzzworthy track to make waves at Hot AC this week. Ella Henderson’s international hit “Ghost,” which is already up to #45 on the Hot AC airplay chart, scored eleven new pickups to rank as the format’s second-most-added track this week.

Vance Joy’s “Riptide,” another alternative smash in search of mainstream success, followed with a healthy ten adds. Despite receiving lukewarm support upon impact last month, “Riptide” has been gradually gaining momentum at the format. As of Monday, it was Hot AC radio’s #42 song. The latest round of adds should help accelerate its climb.

Meghan Trainor’s blockbuster “All About That Bass” followed with nine pickups. Among those to get behind “Bass” this week were New York powerhouses 95.5 PLJ and Fresh 102.7.

Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be (featuring Jess Glynne),” Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang,” Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High)” and Sia’s “Chandelier” each scored 7 adds to tie as fifth-most-added.
