Lacking lead-in support from “True Blood” and facing heavy competition from Sunday Night Football, “The Leftovers” endured a ratings hit Sunday night.
Sunday’s episode drew a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating with 1.53 million viewers. The collective performance trailed that of the previous episode, which drew a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating with 1.85 million viewers on August 24.
That episode, however, benefited from airing out of HBO’s well-rated “True Blood” finale (2.1, 4.04 million). This week’s episode received support from the “Boardwalk Empire” opener, which drew a softer 0.9 rating with 2.37 million viewers.
Prior to airing Sunday’s inaugural season finale, HBO had already confirmed “The Leftovers” for a second season.
