Charli XCX Follows VMAs with “Break the Rules” Video

That her “Boom Clap” is still rising at multiple radio formats provided no element of deterrence against the release of Charli XCX’s new video.

Indeed, in the wake of her pre-show performance at the MTV VMAs, Charli XCX issued the video for new single “Break the Rules.”

Prom-themed, the “Break the Rules” clip functions as a companion of sorts for the “Fancy” video she filmed with Iggy Azalea. With a sharper visual style, it conveys her voice and persona more notably than the video released for her “The Fault in Our Stars”-associated “Boom Clap.”

Rich with influence from “Jawbreaker,” it also features a cameo appearance from actress Rose McGowan.

Like “Boom Clap,” “Break the Rules” appears on Charli XCX’s sophomore album “Sucker.” It ships on October 21.
