Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” Hits #1 on iTunes

Based on the content of songs like her new “Anaconda” and the nature of her persona, Nicki Minaj doubtfully has a philosophical problem with Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass.”

She might, however, object to the song’s dominant performance on iTunes. At roughly 11PM ET Tuesday, Trainor’s debut single officially dethroned Minaj’s “Anaconda” on the iTunes Single Sales chart.

After spending a week in the shadow of Minaj’s “Bang Bang” collaboration, which also includes lead performances from Jessie J and Ariana Grande, Trainor’s “All About That Bass” spent the bulk of Tuesday in the shadow of Minaj’s new release “Anaconda.”

That came to an end just as the day was nearing its culmination. Trainor’s “All About That Bass” is now the best-selling song on the American version of iTunes.

There is no reason to believe “Bass” will rapidly cede its number one spot on the iTunes chart. There is even less reason to believe its jump on this week’s edition of the Billboard Hot 100 will be anything less than significant.

The song, which ranked #28 last week, is expected to enjoy another major climb on this week’s version of Billboard’s all-encompassing single track listing.
