The race between "Who I Am With You" and "Whiskey in My Water" is coming down to the wire. Young's song is #1 right now, but will Farr's ascend by the end of the weekend?
Update: As expected, Tyler Farr’s “Whiskey in My Water” overtook Chris Young’s “Who I Am With You” to rank as country radio’s most-played song for the seven days ending July 12. It will almost certainly retain that spot when Mediabase issues its official weekly update Sunday night.
Another week, another changing of the guard at country radio.
After a week of living in the shadow of Jake Owen’s “Beachin’,” Chris Young’s “Who I Am With You” finally becomes what it long wanted to be: a number one single at country radio.
According to the latest Mediabase rolling aiprlay chart, the song, which received 7,273 spins at the format, was country radio’s most-played song over the seven days ending July 11.
With 55.21 million impressions, its country radio audience ranks second to the aforementioned “Beachin’” (55.29 million).
Despite rising to #1 on the rolling chart, Young’s song might encounter trouble landing the top position on Mediabase’s published chart.
Tyler Farr’s current #2 “Whiskey In My Water” is currently gaining airplay at a faster rate than “Who I Am With You.” If it can close the gap of just 23 weekly spins by the end of the weekend–and it will if it continues gaining at its current pace–it, not “Who I Am With You,” will score first place on the official chart.
