Echosmith’s “Cool Kids” Erupts at Hot AC Radio

With the new Maroon 5 song already immensely on the map and the new Train tune running out of uncharted track, Echosmith’s “Cool Kids” was able to claim the most-added label at Hot Adult Contemporary radio this week.

According to Mediabase, the song, which is benefiting from iHeartRadio’s “On the Verge” program and the band’s “Artist to Watch” spotlight on MTV, landed at 21 new hot adult contemporary stations this week.

Enough to easily produce the week’s largest add count, the latest round of support will help “Cool Kids” continue its impressive surge up the format’s airplay chart. As it stands, the breakthrough Echosmith track is already Hot AC’s 30th-most-played song.

With 10 adds, Disclosure’s “Latch (featuring Sam Smith)” ranks as the week’s second-most-added track. KONGOS’ “Come With Me Now” and Neon Trees’ “Text Me in the Morning” follow with 9 adds each, while Christina Perri’s new “Burning Gold” ranks as fifth-most-added with 8 pickups.

Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” and The Madden Brothers’ “We Are Done” tie for sixth place with seven adds each.

After reigning as most- or second-most-added for three consecutive weeks, Train’s “Angel in Blue Jeans” settles for eighth place with six new adds. Florida Georgia Line’s “This is How We Roll (remix featuring Jason DeRulo)” and Jason Mraz’ “Love Someone” also scored six adds this week.

Maroon 5’s “Maps,” which, like the Train song, also ranked as the most- or second-most-added for three consecutive weeks, only scored one new pickup this go-around. Of course, given how many stations have already added the song, this week’s low mark is neither surprising nor damning.

Since Mediabase’s airplay chart only includes data from monitored reporters, it is also worth looking at how songs specifically fared with those stations

1) Echosmith – Cool Kids – 20 monitored adds
2) Disclosure – Latch featuring Sam Smith – 10 monitored adds
3) KONGOS – Come With Me Now – 9 monitored adds
3) Neon Trees – Text Me in the Morning – 9 monitored adds
5) Christina Perri – Burning Gold – 8 monitored adds
6) Charli XCX – Boom Clap – 7 monitored adds
6) The Madden Brothers – We Are Done – 7 monitored adds
8) Florida Georgia Line – This is How We Roll remix featuring Jason DeRulo – 6 monitored adds
8) Jason Mraz – Love Someone – 6 monitored adds
8) Train – Angel in Blue Jeans – 6 monitored adds
