NBC Renews “About a Boy,” “Hannibal” for Next Season

One was considered a shoo-in for next season. The other was dubbed a toss-up.

But when push came to shove, NBC found room for both shows on its 2014-15 schedule.

Sources confirmed Friday that NBC renewed freshman comedy “About a Boy” and sophomore drama “Hannibal.”

While the “About a Boy” renewal was made obvious by the show’s solid ratings performer, “Hannibal” remained the epitome of a bubble series. Its ratings are not impressive, but it strong critical marks and strong skew in favor of wealthy audiences provided NBC with enough motivation to pull the trigger on a third season.
