FOX Keeps “American Idol,” Cancels “Dads,” “Rake,” Others

Confirming speculation from last month, FOX officially announced that “American Idol” will return for a fourteenth season.

The series, despite its low ratings, remains a valuable property for FOX, and the network decided to move forward with another round of the show. Questions still exist regarding the judging lineup and whether it will receive the same amount of airtime next season, but they no longer exist regarding its status at FOX. It has been renewed.

The news was not as kind to “Dads,” “Rake,” “Enlisted” and “Surviving Jack.” None of the four will receive a second season at FOX.

While that outcome should have been expected due to ratings, sources like Deadline had recently suggested “Dads” was building momentum for a potential renewal. Whatever momentum was being developed obviously was not enough to compensate for the show’s performance.
