“American Idol'”s Alex Preston Climbs iTunes with “Fairytales”

Two weeks ago, his quirky cover of One Direction’s “Story of My Life” made a minor dent in the iTunes Single Sales chart.

This week, a reprise of his audition song is poised to make an even bigger impact.

As of press time, “Fairytales,” the original song performed by “American Idol” contestant Alex Preston, had reached as high as number fifty five on the iTunes chart. As the day progresses, its chart position will improve — potentially greatly.

While Preston’s song is clearly the hottest seller, it is not the only one gaining ground on iTunes. Despite receiving weak marks from critics, Sam Woolf’s cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House” is the week’s next-best-seller at #145. Jessica Meuse’s original “Blue-Eyed Lie,” meanwhile, is #163.
