“Girls” Scores Fourth Season, “Boardwalk Empire” Ends This Year

HBO announced additional seasons for two of its original series Thursday.

For one such series, however, the additional season will serve as its swan song.

“Boardwalk Empire,” that show, will conclude after its newly confirmed fifth season.

“We’re thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire,” said the series’ Terry Winter. “After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”

Critically acclaimed “Girls,” meanwhile, scored a fourth season days before its third premieres.

The final “Boardwalk Empire” season will air this fall; the fourth “Girls” season will bow in 2015.
