“Frozen” Too Hot for “Fire,” “Out of the Furnace” Flops at Box Office

The box office just got a little cooler.

After falling short of the crown last weekend, “Frozen” outperformed “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” in its second effort to claim victory at the weekend box office.

The animated film earned $31.6 million, which was enough to hold off “Fire” and its $27 million. With a cumulative gross of $336.7 million, however, the latest “Hunger Games” has little about which to cry.

Along with “Frozen,” was also the only wide film to attract a decent audience this weekend. “Out of Furnace,” the weekend’s only major new entry and its third place finisher, flopped with just $5.3 million.

“Thor: The Dark World” ($4.7 million) and “Delivery Man” ($3.8 million) completed the top five.

On the platform front, “Inside Llewyn Davis” garnered $401,000 in receipts from its four screens.
