“Out of the Furnace” Flops as “Hunger Games,” “Frozen” Lead Box Office

Thanks to lukewarm reviews and limited buzz, “Out of the Furnace” failed to generate any heat at the box office.

In scoring a paltry $1.9 million in its debut Friday, the film was forced to settle for third place. “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” ($7.7 million) and “Frozen” ($6.8 million) retained the top two spots.

“Thor: The Dark World” and “Delivery Man” placed fourth and fifth with $1.3 million and $1.2 million, respectively. No other top ten member did anything of note Friday.

On the platform front, acclaimed “Inside Llewyn Davis” earned $123,000 from four screens.
