Carlito Olivero Survives, “X Factor” Eliminates Team Demi Lovato

For the second time in as many opportunities, Demi Lovato will not be represented in the annual “The X Factor” semifinals.

Both of Thursday’s eliminations, which narrowed the field from six hopefuls to four semifinalists, concerned members of Lovato’s “Girls” category.

Despite receiving high marks for her renditions of “Applause” and “If I Were a Boy,” Team Lovato contestant Ellona Santiago was the week’s lowest vote-getter and guaranteed victim of elimination.

Rion Paige (Team Lovato) and Carlito Olivero (Team Rubio), Santiago’s fellow bottom three members, then participated in a sudden death playoff for the final spot in next week’s semifinals. After saving the competition’s youngest contestant from the throes of elimination last week, the judges (save for Lovato) agreed the end had come for Rion Paige. Paige, who sang “See You Again” and “Glass” on Wednesday’s show, finishes her run in fifth place.

Restless Road and Alex & Sierra, representing Team Simon Cowell’s “Groups,” Jeff Gutt, representing Kelly Rowland’s “Over 25s,” and Carlito Olivero, representing Paulina Rubio’s “Boys,” compete in next week’s semifinal showdown.
