Update: “Glee” Hits Ratings Low, “X Factor” Comes Close

FOX’s Thursday race to the bottom is about as close as it gets.

On the one hand, final Nielsen data reveals FOX’s “Glee” sank to a series low in adults 18-49 Thursday. With just a 1.4 in that coveted demo, “Glee” was a distant third place in the timeslot and a far cry from its days of dominating the television ratings game.

With an average of just 4.22 million viewers, Thursday’s “The End of Twerk” narrowly avoided a series low in that column as well.

Though it narrowly claimed second place in its depleted 8PM timeslot, FOX’s “The X Factor” actually delivered a weaker adults 18-49 number.

The results show managed just a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating with 5.18 million viewers.

While it avoided a series low and actually improved upon the previous week’s demo number (for the Top 13 do-over), the extent of the increase should be the source of significant disappointment.

Last week’s airing might have only mustered a 1.2 rating, but it did so against competition from a special “The Voice” results show. Without that event attracting nearly ten million music competition fans, should not “The X Factor” have gained more than 0.1 in the demo and 1.5 million viewers?
