The CW Orders More “Reign,” “Originals,” “Tomorrow People”

Many months will pass before The CW announces its 2014-15 broadcast schedule.

But when that announcement is made next spring, all three fall newcomers will be in contention. The network announced Monday that it has picked up “The Originals,” “Reign” and “The Tomorrow People” for the duration of the 2013-14 broadcast season.

As is customary for broadcast series, the full seasons will consist of 22 episodes.

“We’re excited about the creative momentum the producers have established for all three of our new series, and now our fans will have the chance to see the full stories unfold for them this season,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz. “With the additional episodes ordered, plus two new dramas and new reality for midseason, we’ll be able to continue our commitment to adding more original programming all year long.”

A hit by network standards, “The Originals” was the safest bet for a full season order and already seems on track to earn a second season.

Though its numbers are modest, especially in comparison to its “The Vampire Diaries” lead-in, “Reign” has impressed by virtue of its stable performance.

Of the three newcomers, “The Tomorrow People” seemed most on the bubble, but its numbers still compare favorably to those of returning series like “Hart of Dixie,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Carrie Diaries.”
