Lorde’s “Royals” Surges into Top 10; Katy Perry’s “Roar” Leads Chart

She might never be royal, but breakthrough New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde’s smash hit is definitely not performing like a commoner.

After its big achievements on the Alternative and Rock Airplay charts, “Royals” can now add another line to its growing resume: top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

Despite the risk of being overshadowed by those songs performed on the MTV Video Music Awards, “Royals” continued its momentum with an ascent into the eighth slot, reports Billboard. And, as its sales and profile continue to grow, it will likely not peak out at number eight.

“Royals” serves as the key North American promotional piece for her upcoming studio release “Pure Heroine.” That album drops later this month.

While “Royals” represented Lorde’s first foray into the top portion of the Hot 100, one of the chart’s most dominant all-time performers added another achievement to her belt. Katy Perry scored another number one–her eighth–with new single “Roar.”

In advancing to number one, “Roar” finally dethrones Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” from the chart’s apex. That song slips to number two, one spot ahead of Eminem’s debut “Berzerk.”

The complete top ten from Billboard’s Hot 100 chart:
1 – Katy Perry “Roar”
2 – Robin Thicke “Blurred Lines”
3 – Eminem “Berzerk”
4 – Miley Cyrus We Can’t Stop
5 – Jay-Z “Holy Grail”
6 – Lady Gaga “Applause”
7 – Avicii “Wake Me Up”
8 – Lorde “Royals”
9 – Imagine Dragons “Radioactive”
10 – Lana Del Rey “Summertime Sadness”
