Jeff Daniels Confirms “The Newsroom” Will Return for Season 3

The battle between rumor and common sense landed in favor of the latter Tuesday, as proven by “The Newsroom” star Jeff Daniels’ Tweet that the show would be back for a third season.

“It’s official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3,” wrote Daniels of the HBO series.

Given the show’s high-profile, its renewal seemed as good as certain from the second its season premiere delivered solid ratings. But HBO’s failure to offer a swift renewal–as it has done with shows like “Game of Thrones”–created some speculation about its status.

Citing his potentially busy schedule, one unsubstantiated rumor questioned whether creator Aaron Sorkin, who writes every episode, was even interested in doing a third season.

Nothing is official until HBO declares it so. But given the confidence of his Tweet, it would be a major shock if HBO’s announcement offered anything other than confirmation of a third round of “The Newsroom.”
