More VMA Performances: Macklemore Delivers “Same Love,” Drake Medleys

Their position on the bill was far from enviable, but with a strong message, Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert made “Same Love” work at the MTV Video Music Awards.

As the first performers to take the stage since Justin Timberlake’s epic medley and Vanguard Award acceptance speech, the three faced a steep uphill battle in attempting to connect with the crowd. But by the end, the trio totally had support for its message of equality, and the “Same Love” showcase will be remembered as a VMA bright spot.

Later in the show, Drake performed a medley of his recent hits “Hold On, We’re Going Home” and “Started from the Bottom.”
