“Best Song Ever” Becomes One Direction’s Biggest Chart Hit Ever

Though it did not achieve career high sales for the boy band, new “Best Song Ever” already ranks as One Direction’s best-charting song ever.

Fueled by an impressive 322,000 digital downloads and 7.9 million registered streams during this past chart week, the latest 1D single lands at number two on Billboard’s premiere Hot 100. Second only to Robin Thicke’s monster “Blurred Lines,” “Best Song Ever” edges past the group’s 2012 hit “Live While We’re Young,” which peaked at number three.

That song, however, moved 341,000 units to produce One Direction’s best overall single sales week.

Prior to “Live While We’re Young,” One Direction made an American splash with “What Makes You Beautiful.” That single peaked at number four on the Hot 100.

Incorporated into the promotion for the group’s upcoming documentary film “This is Us,” “Song” also serves as the lead single for 1D’s next studio album.
