Chris Benoit Movie Moves Forward, “Crossface” Director Revealed

Reports that Liev Schreiber was to play Chris Benoit were proven false, but the notion that Hollywood is moving forward with a Chris Benoit movie is anything but.

Deadline reported Monday that “Crossface,” a film adaptation of Matthew Randazzo’s “Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry,” has secured Vicente Amorim as its director.

Best known for directing “Good,” Amorim will chronicle the high-pressure pro wrestling environment within which Benoit transitioned from beloved performer into the man responsible for the infamous 2007 double-murder-suicide.

“Wrestling is showbiz taken to the extreme and ‘Crossface’ is Limelight on steroids,” said Amorim. “Chris Benoit’s story is the perfect vehicle for a fiercely honest film that is as much about him and the world of wrestling as it is about America and show business. I am very happy to be on board to help tell this story.”

With a script penned by Sarah Coulter, “Crossface” is due to enter production next year.
