WWE Star Leaves for Surgery; Details on SmackDown! Injury Angle

Not fearing the impact of “spoiling” its weekly SmackDown! telecast, WWE reported on an injury angle filmed during the Tuesday taping.

The company announced Wednesday that Kofi Kingston will undergo surgery and miss 4-8 weeks of action. The procedure comes in response to a legitimate elbow injury, but WWE.com’s story also connected to a storyline at Tuesday’s show.

That angle saw Ryback put Kofi Kingston through multiple tables during a vicious post-match attack. Sold as the cause of a neck injury, the angle was to provide storyline explanation for Kingston’s upcoming elbow surgery.

Loosely tying the storyline into reality, “[WWE Doctor Michael Sampson] further diagnosed that Ryback’s attack actually accelerating Kingston’s already-existing elbow injury.”
