FOX Confirms “New Girl,” New Comedy Will Receive Post-Super Bowl Slot

Undeterred by a weak response to its post-Super Bowl “Glee,” FOX will air another female-friendly comedy series after the 2014 Super Bowl broadcast.

FOX announced Monday that “New Girl,” starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone, will receive the coveted timeslot.

It will not air alone, however. Rather than giving “New Girl” an hourlong platform, FOX will pair the half-hour comedy with one of the new comedy series it announced Monday. An announcement regarding which show will get the nod is due at a later date.

Networks have had mixed results with post-Super Bowl offerings in recent years, particularly as it relates to scripted fare. Accessible unscripted series like “Undercover Boss” and “The Voice” have provided the best results.
