“American Idol” Reveals Predictable Top Ten; Finals Finally to Begin

If there is any consequence of the drastic reduction in the “American Idol” audience, it seems that there might be less of a wildcard factor on results night.

Thursday’s results show, which revealed the top ten finalists for the twelfth running of the “Idol” competition, was almost too predictable–avoiding the Mikalah Gordon and Sanjaya Malakar-level shocks that have been known to occur in “Idol”‘s semifinal rounds.

Male semifinalists confirmed for the top ten are Paul Jolley, Burnell Taylor, Curtis Finch, Jr., Lazaro Arbos and Devin Velez. Females in the final heat are Angie Miller, Janelle Arthur, Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb and Candice Glover.

Of note is that the oft-discussed threat of “vote sharing” did not impact this week’s outcomes. Numerous contestants of similar musical styles, looks and/or ethnic backgrounds moved through, another potential indication that the depleted “Idol” audience might produce different voter proclivities.
