USA Network’s “Psych” Renewed For Short, Likely Final Season

USA Network announced Thursday that it has renewed veteran comedy series “Psych” for a shortened eighth season.

Its sixteen-episode seventh season has not yet begun airing, but USA Network gave the show’s cast, crew and fans a Christmas present in the form of an eight episode renewal.

“Psych is one of those rarities – a show that continues to grow its fan base season after season, with exceptional storytelling, a consistently inspired cast and talented guest stars,” said USA’s Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel. “We thought Shawn Spencer would have seen this coming.”

Though renewals are gift horses not meant to be looked at in the mouth, the downside of the news is that the eight episodes will likely bring an end to “Psych.” While USA did not officially declare this order the swan song for the show, that is what is typically signaled by shortened-season renewals.
