“Liz & Dick” Disappoints in the Ratings; No Trainwreck Appeal?

Lifetime’s critically-panned film “Liz & Dick” disappointed in the ratings Sunday, proving that trainwreck appeal is not always enough to drive viewership.

Expected to be a smash hit–first due to the buzz surrounding Lindsay Lohan’s involvement in the project and then due to the exceptionally awful reviews–the movie averaged only 3.5 million viewers and a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating for its premiere telecast.

It ranks as Lifetime’s fourth most-watched original film premiere of all-time. Though not terrible in principle, when one considers the high-profile hype, anything less than a record for the network has to be seen as a significant disappointment.
