“Breaking Dawn” Dominates Box Office But Might Miss “Twilight” Record

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2” obliterated the competition at the box office this weekend, although if estimates hold, it will not set the franchise record for opening gross.

As of press time, estimates are for a $141.3 million weekend, which would fall slightly short of the $142.8 million earned by second film “New Moon.” The “Part 2” total did, however, narrowly top the $138.1 million tally for part one of “Breaking Dawn.”

“Skyfall” followed with $41.5 million in its second outing, while “Lincoln” earned $21 million in its first weekend of wide release.

“Wreck-It Ralph” and “Flight” completed the top five with $18.3 million and $8.6 million, respectively.
