Strikeforce Officially Closing, Ronda Rousey, Others UFC Bound

What seemed inevitable is now reality. Zuffa will be closing the door on its Strikeforce promotion, in the process paving the way for stars like Ronda Rousey to head to UFC.

TMZ reported the story Thursday night, noting that Strikeforce’s final show will be the January 12 show from Oklahoma City, OK.

Though the news about Strikeforce’s doomed future is first breaking now, UFC sources had long been teasing that Ronda Rousey, the biggest women’s MMA star since Gina Carano, would eventually fight in the Octagon. There were even rumors that she and rival Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos were under consideration as coaches for a future edition of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Rousey will likely fight Santos, Sara McMann or Miesha Tate in her UFC debut.
