NBC Passes on Rainn Wilson’s “The Office” Spin-Off

Viewers will not be taking a trip to Schrute Farms next year.

Rainn Wilson, who was to continue as Dwight Schrute on planned “The Office” spin-off “The Farm,” confirmed on his Twitter that NBC passed on the project.

“Farm Update: NBC has passed on moving forward with The Farm TV show. Had a blast making the pilot – onwards & upwards,” wrote Wilson.

Sources have not yet said whether the backdoor pilot for the show, which was to air at some point during the current final season of “The Office,” will still broadcast as part of the show’s creative plan.

NBC’s reason for rejecting the spin-off is unclear, but given weak audience interest in the final season of “The Office,” it is unlikely “The Farm” would have drawn competitive ratings for the network.
