Seth MacFarlane’s grip on the entertainment world continues to get tighter.
His “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show” continue enjoying support from FOX, which has committed to other projects, including his high-profile revival of “The Flintstones.” His feature directorial debut “ted” was a critical and box office smash. And, as a performer, he received rave reviews for his turn on “Saturday Night Live.”
Now, even on the heels of a laugh-generating microphone flub at the 2012 Emmy Awards, Seth MacFarlane can still add another line to his resume: “Academy Awards host.”
MacFarlane was confirmed Monday as the host of the 2013 Oscar ceremony, which will air on February 24, 2013. It will be the 85th edition of the prestigious awards show for achievement in film.
“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” said MacFarlane. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”
MacFarlane’s ability to sing–and deliver an array of voices–makes him an asset for awards shows, which can often be made or broken based on the host’s ability to independently entertain the audience.
“Seth is unbelievably talented,” said Academy President Hawk Koch. “We couldn’t be happier with the creative team we’ve assembled.”
