UFC Taps Roy Nelson, Shane Carwin to Coach “The Ultimate Fighter”

So much for those inexplicable rumors about Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone coaching the next “The Ultimate Fighter” season.

UFC confirmed Thursday that heavyweights Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin will serve as opposing coaches on the sixteenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” set to air on FX beginning in September.

Heat between Nelson and Carwin has emerged on social channels, which should intensify interest in seeing the heavyweights combat as coaches before challenging each other inside the Octagon.

“This is going to be a very interesting dynamic between these two heavyweights. They both have huge punching power and great chins but, outside of the Octagon, they couldn’t be more different,” sad UFC President Dana White. “These two have been going at it on social media for a while and don’t seem to like each other very much, but they are going to be seeing a lot of each other during this series and I guarantee it’ll make for great TV.”

USA Today reports that as of press time, Nelson and Carwin are scheduled to have their bout on the “Ultimate Finale” rather than on pay-per-view.
