Mavericks Land Darren Collison as Point Guard, Send Mahinmi to Indiana

The offseason has not been a pretty one thus far for the Mavericks; the team lost out in the Deron Williams (and thus Dwight Howard) race, missed an opportunity to score Steve Nash and failed to re-sign Jason Kidd.

But they will at least have some presence in the backcourt beyond Roddy Beaubois and Delonte West (if he even re-signs); Draft Express reported Wednesday that the Mavericks will score Pacers point guard Darren Collison and Dahntay Jones in a sign-and-trade deal for Ian Mahinmi.

Collison became expendable after the Pacers re-signed George Hill, who took over the starting point role late last season. And Mahinmi gives the Pacers at least one of the big men they had been looking to score this offseason.

Another potential factor in the Pacers’ decision is reported interest in trading for Bobcats guard DJ Augustin, although sources are mixed on how likely such a deal is.
