Jeremy Lin Agrees to Deal with Houston Rockets; Knicks’ Turn to Match

In news one had to assume was coming on the heels of Houston’s decision to trade Kyle Lowry to Toronto, sources say Jeremy Lin has signed a three-year offer sheet from the Rockets.

According to Yahoo!, the deal, as expected, will involve a “poison pill” $9.3 million in the third year, which puts pressure on the Knicks from a luxury tax standpoint.

With a team option for a fourth year, salary for years one and two will be $5 million and $5.2 million, respectively.

Given what Lin brings to the table from a business and marketing standpoint, most still believe the Knicks will match the offer and retain the media phenomenon. Still, with Jason Kidd now on the roster to provide support at the point, one has to assume the Knicks are at least a little more hesitant to match the rich backend than they were earlier in the week.

The New York Daily News anticipates that free agent point guard and former Knick Raymond Felton would be the likely option if the team chooses to pass on Lin.
