“Community” Returns to Big Ratings Without “Big Bang Theory” Competition

“Big” is a relative statement associated with the struggle NBC has long faced on Thursday nights, but let’s just say that “Community” could have done a lot worse in its return Thursday.

After spending much of the fall in the ratings basement, it returned with a healthy 2.2 adults 18-49 rating this week, losing only to “American Idol” in the key demo. Undoubtedly a beneficiary of no “The Big Bang Theory” (the non-comedic NCAA tournament delivered only a 1.7 in the 8PM hour), “Community” also improved its viewership total to 4.89 million.

Based on the fast nationals, it actually slightly edged Thursday flagship “The Office” in total viewers–that show fell to a 2.3 with with 4.88 million.

8:30PM comedy “30 Rock” delivered an improved 2.0 and 4.05 million, while 9:30’s “Up All Night” was steady at a 1.7 and 3.6 million.
