“Twilight” Wins Thanksgiving Box Office, “Muppets,” “Hugo” Follow

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One” remains the film to beat the box office, but “The Muppets” and “Hugo” also found themselves on the radar this Thanksgiving.

After starting with a second-place $6.6 million on Wednesday, “Muppets” fell to $5.9 million for second on Thursday, behind the $7.8 million for “Breaking Dawn.” Given the hype, the presumed-nostalgia effect and the great reviews, this cannot be considered a huge win for the latest “Muppets” revival, but there at least does appear to be an audience that will give it a decent-enough opening splash.

“Hugo,” meanwhile, scored $2.3 million on 1,277 screens, building on its $1.7 million from Wednesday. Given the limited release and the limited appeal of the promotion, that is considered a pretty solid performance. “Hugo” was one of the few films to do better on Thanksgiving Day than Thanksgiving Eve, another positive sign.

“Happy Feet Two” ($2.1 million) and “Immortals” ($1.9 million) rounded out the top five.
