He’s Back! Ricky Gervais Set to Return as Golden Globes Host

After two controversial turns as the host of NBC’s Golden Globes broadcast, “The Office” creator Ricky Gervais looks like he will be back for a third try.

Variety cites HFPA sources who say Gervais was voted in as the host of this year’s ceremony.

Gervais’ first stint made waves, but it was his second that generated particular backlash. Gervais was ripped by media and critics for going overboard with meanness, and some of the stars–themselves–seemed troubled by the comedian’s style.

Robert Downey, Jr. ripped Gervais on the spot, while Jane Lynch took a shot at Gervais during her Emmys hosting gig eight months alter.

Still, with awards shows often at risk of coming across as monotonous, the intrigue and unpredictability of Gervais’ comedic style offers a welcome attraction to the annual telecast, and unless plans change, it appears he will indeed be back for round three.
